The Whales Winter Academy Program recruits players from all over the B.C. Lower Mainland to play on our U18 and U15 Prep Teams.

These teams compete in the Premier Hockey League (PHL) in a showcase-style league.

Our teams also play a 24-game exhibition schedule against the three other local PHL programs,

Sharpshooters Academy, Fraser Valley Aces, and Pacific Canadians. Our Academy Team’s home rink is Planet Ice Coquitlam

which is very centrally located just off Highway 1 under the Port Mann Bridge.

The goal of our academy is to develop players to the very best of their abilities, instilling in them the Whales core values

to inspire the pursuit of excellence through integrity, self-discipline and passion on and off the ice.

Our Academy uses hockey as a fundamental tool to shape the characters of our young athletes to excel in all aspects of their lives.

Whales Academy Teams provide the platform for athletes to showcase their individual talents while celebrating their work ethic in a team environment.

Our Prep Teams begin skating in September and run straight throughout the winter season concluding with the PHL Playoff Showcase in March.

Tryouts for these teams happen throughout the year.

If you wish to try out or simply want more information on our Academy Programs please fill out our Academy Team Player Application Form below,

and we will respond directly to your email.

A HOCKEY LEAGUE CREATED BY HOCKEY PLAYERS FOR HOCKEY PLAYERS

The Premier Hockey League (PHL)  has seen tremendous growth in the past three-plus seasons, since the league’s initial launch in 2019.

In that first season the PHL consisted of only four teams playing in one single division, but fast-forward three years, and the 2023/24 PHL season will have over 50 teams playing in eight showcase-style divisions.

Having started with only franchises in Alberta, the PHL has expanded to include teams from British Columbia and Montana USA. The PHL was founded to provide an option for teams, coaches, players, and families to develop young players at a level consistent with their abilities.

All member organizations that play in the PHL are independently owned and operated but have chosen the PHL as a method to offer high-level and competitive games for their players.

The PHL hopes that young athletes playing in their league will always enjoy a fun developmental experience that will enhance their ability to pursue their dreams.

PHL League Mission Statement

  • To provide youth hockey players an environment to showcase and progress their individual skills within a team setting
  • To establish a culture and partnership for its member organizations based on continual improvement for its athletes
  • To uphold the highest level of sportsmanship and team play, while maintaining all stakeholder’s competitive passion and love for the game
  • To uphold the highest standards in player safety
  • To develop player confidence and leadership qualities on and off the ice
